Report says LG will delay G4 announcement to 'make a bigger splash'

Right about the time we've all collectively come down from the boost of energy supplied by the Galaxy S6, LG will reportedly be ready for us. The expected announcement date for the Samsung Galaxy S6 is at Mobile World Congress, which likely means a release later in the month. After the initial crush for the Galaxy S6, LG will reportedly unveil the G4, their own flagship follow-up. According to a new report, LG wants to distance themselves as an also-ran in Android.

Rather than go toe-to-toe with Samsung, LG will unveil the G4 in April, according to sources speaking to The Korea Times. Their reason for not hitting MWC with their latest flagship is to "make a bigger splash", says one source.

Though April might sound strange (LG released their G3 in May of last year), it's a smart move, if the report is accurate. It gives them enough time to tease their incoming device while Samsung is trying to sell their flagship, placing doubt int he minds of some shoppers as to which is the right phone for them.

It also distances LG from HTC, who are likely to release their own flagship, the One M9, at MWC as well.

Cleverly scheduled, LG might hit the sweet-spot with a G4 announcement and give themselves the stage as a solo act, not another stop for press to make during an event. Of course, if either Samsung or HTC come through with anything truly spectacular rather than iterative, it might not matter.
