Report: 1 Million Verizon iPhones in First Weekend

Many people pointed to the lack of physical lines outside stores on Verizon iPhone launch day as a sign that the device was not going to sell well. Most of us reporting on the lack of lines that day pointed to the fact that pre-orders for the iPhone appeared to be strong and was most likely a primary reason for the lack of lines.Over the weekend Verizon CEO Dan Mead informed the media that over 60% of their iPhone 4 sales were from pre-orders. Early analyst reports from JP Morgan estimated pre-order volumes were in the 600,000 range. That would mean the total sales on the first weekend were around or slightly above 1 million.

By comparison Apple sold 1.7 million iPhone 4's the first weekend it was available on AT&T. Verizon has stated that they will not release final numbers of sales volumes until their earnings report in April. However, Verizon has consistently remarked to the media that the iPhone 4 has been the best single selling device of recent years. So we can gather that sales were strong and we can anticipate solid sales figures come Verizon's earnings report.

It appears the logic used by both Apple and Verizon that their customers wanted this phone right now was correct. Other reports have also surfaced recenently stating that an LTE version of the iPhone would not come until 2012 at the earliest. So it appears now is as good as time of any to get the iPhone 4 on Verizon.
