Loading ...Everyone has commended Microsoft for extending their warranty service to the unfortunate individuals that have experienced the dreaded Red Ring of Death. While everyone admits that they should have fixed the problem a long time ago, it’s a step in the right direction. However, what happens when they send your Xbox 360 back to you and you fire it up for the first time? Kotaku Editor Brian Ashcraft got to experience it first hand.
That picture you see isn’t from the console before he sent it in. This is what happened roughly 5 minutes after he plugged in his refurbished console. No, he wasn’t playing it while sitting in a sauna, nor did he set it next to the stove while preparing a lavish meal. He just set it underneath his TV on the stand and plugged it in. He gets the welcome screen, but then his controllers won’t sync with it. Next thing he knows, his screen is black, and well, see the above pic.
This is completely unacceptable Microsoft. If you’re going to fix something, do it right. I don’t care if you have to ship people brand new consoles, just fix the issue. I can’t imagine that this one was caused by overheating, as it didn’t work from the start, and it was only on 5 minutes before the RRoD struck. I prey that my 360 never craps out on me like that.

Wow, Damn! I sent my 360 off two weeks ago to get fixed…..again! The first one worked for 6 months. The second worked for 2 months. It wasn’t a tiny box with no air. It wasn’t in an oven set on low. The 360 was on an entertainment center with not backing. That =’s great air flow!
I love the 360, I just wish it worked! I am using my brothers 360 now, I am terrified that his will die and I will have to pay for it!
I think it breaks once, fine. Breaks twice, they should give you a new elite system!
This all I say I have had my 360 since launch date its been the best system I have everr had. Thanx Microsoft.

Mine is a 2005 Launch box. Still works excellent. Though to be fair, I Clean my xbox along with my pc and plasma on a monthly basis.
Sounds like getting a trustworthy Xbox360 is comparable to getting Chinese food with garlic not stomped on with dirty shoes…
My cousin had a problem with his and had to send it in and personally I have never used a Microsoft gaming console (well any of the xBoxs) but I have personally never had a problem with any of my other gaming consoles so I think it figures Microsoft would have the problems with there game consoles.
Sony and all PS3 owners are pathetic. Guys, show some dignity by accepting the fact that the number one reason PS3’s don’t break is because there aren’t any games for it! By the way, did you know that the 360 outsold the PS3 more than 2:1 in August? LOL. Get over it. Nobody gives a damn about the PS3. Go home and fold some more proteins.

I have a ps3, and its not a bad syste, 360 got a year start god damnmit!
and we have plnty of enough games coming out fr one system before xmas, then after xmas 360 is owned by MGS4,FFXIII, and KillZone2!
unless of course gears of war 2 comes out, or another halo, which i doubt a halo4 is coming out!

I’m not a fanboy for either side, nor do I own either console yet, but when you go to Taco Bell and you get a messed up order, it is not the entire Taco Bell company that you blame - it’s a minimum wage worker that messed your order up.
I’d say that it’s analogous to this event, though a refurb dying after 5 minutes is not the norm because this would be class-action lawsuit territory.
Additionally, the reason why the PS3 has a low title library is because while the PS3 is capable of a lot, the programmers for the games are not, or at least not yet.

I sent mine in (I live in Ontario) and received, under two weeks, a console that had been manufactured just two months earlier. It’s been working like a charm. I’m not pleased that it crapped out on me, but I’m really happy with the plethora of game goodness it allows me to play.
Anti-Microsoft fanboy here…people who post ripping on fanboys of another console are idiots because they are being fanboys themselves…at least I admit it. So why the hell are people putting up with this 360 crap? Would you buy a car if it had a 1 in 3 chance of breaking down? You wouldn’t…I don’t care how fun it would be to drive… Take a stand morons and don’t buy M$ crap, if just to show them that they can’t get away with slapping an XBox logo on steaming poo and calling it ice cream. As for the PS3…the games will come…and the system has been working whether or not it has been playing games… We’ve all heard the sauna testing…even fanboys can’t deny it. So suck it up and drop M$ like a bad habit…shore up the extra $150 (you’ll spend more than that on accessories to make you 360 equivalent to a PS3 anyways) and get a quality console. Or if you don’t want to front the cash…get a Wii…they are fun to play too. Go PSWii!
I’m also on my 3rd 360 and I think it’s sux that we as gamers are put thru this crap I personally luv the system I am going to get a PS3 but that wont change the fact that microsoft has everything I play and the Awesome XBOX LIVE so anybody says buy a PS3 what are you gonna play at this point and time
what are you going to play??? warhawk, heavenly sword, resistance fall of man, and all the other multiplatform games, oblivion, graw 2, rainbow six vegas, and plus future games coming out in a couple of months, ratchet and clank, and others that i cant think off the top of my head, but there are games, but then again tell me how many games were there for xbox their first year??? i can bet that the ps3 has just as many or more/\

But I have admit Xbox 360 refurbished is SH*T as I got one and it will not read my game properly and I returned it and got another one. First time I started it I got 3 RED rings. Then I gave it up and bought an Elite edition. Now it is perfect and I loved my Gears of War.

I don’t know what all this crap is about the PS3 having ‘No games’. It has over 50 titles on the shelf. If any 360 owner here has that many games sat on the shelf at home then 600 bucks price for the PS3 is a steal.

The PS3 does have alot of good games coming out now through the first quarter of next year, so “the PS3 doesnt have any games” argument has ran it’s course. I’m going to go play my reliable PS3 now… that sits right next to my refurbished 360. (no joke)

I work at gamestop and all the customers that own a 360 AND a PS3 say that their PS3 just sits there, used only for blu-ray. Customers are dissatisfied with the very limited selection of first-party games being put out by Sony. Sony probably would have done better if it pushed/planned deadlines for the more popular games. The Wii has little 3rd party support and the graphics aren’t nearly as good compared to the PS3 and 360, but it’s almost caught up to the 360 in sales (and blown way past the PS3). The gaming industry’s main concern should be the customers first and the money second, which is why the Wii is doing so great.
Personally, I think the Wii sucks. haha
I have both the ps3 and the xbox 360.The ps3 was bought a week after launch it may have ten hours on it.The 360 was also bought a launch it worked fine until last week,you would think I would play the ps3 and wait for the 360 to get back but no.I went and bought a new halo 3 edition 360 to replace it.I admit there is promise for the ps3 to be better than the 360 but as of now it is not.I am still happy that I bought the ps3 at launch though because the new ones do not have the ps2 chip.I would say just be happy with what you have.There are still some poor old souls with ps2’s out there.

It is apparent that all 360’s are defective, and the refurbish process is flawed.

i’ve had my system for 2 full years. i’ve left it on hundreds of times for more than 6 hours. never got rrod, never froze on me. dunno what you people are doing.
i bought my Xbox (not 360) refurbished and have never had a problem with it, now you all scared me, and i dont know if i shud buy my 360 refurbed too… thanks a lot..(sob)
I have a 360 and a ps3.i bought both at launch.i have never had a problem with my 360.truthfully,i do not see the graphic power house the ps3 is supposed to be.i am dis apointed with my ps3.i have both hook up to a 1080 hdtv plamsa screen.and the games that are supposed to be graphiacly better then 360 suck lair anyone?yet look at madden and the sports game are better on the 360 and live is a great online service.the only thing microsoft has did wrong so far.is taken to long to get the bugs worked out.now they have did that with the falcon chip set.now sony has dropped a lot of goose eggs software wise already.and now devil may cry 4 and metal gear is coming to the 360.i am strating to wonder why i dropped 675 on a ps3.i am not a so called fanboy either.i have been a big supporter of sony.the only reson i got a 360 to begin with was for next gen sports games.but sony has bomb with the ps3.and as soon as sony and everybody will admit to that,the sooner maybe sony can save it.cause right now the ps3 is just collecting dust.for a couple of more hundred of dollars i could of got a hd dvd and blue ray dvd plyer in one.let be honest sony has hope.but will they save it in time?so lets admit the wii and 360 are destroying sonys ps3.foorm a life long sony product user,and i don’t even want to get strated about my psp.
I was going to buy my son a refurbished xbox 360, now I’m having second thoughts. My sister boy has an xbox 360 and has never had a bit of problems. Reading all this stuff is changing my mind tho. If I do buy one it better be one heck of a deal. I’m searching for a good deal because I will be totally ticked if it goes out.

do you still play it on the shitty tv you have prob. had for the past 5 years get a new tv.. HD and you will see a BIG diff. i love ps3 game choice could be a little better. but compared to the 3 times i had to get my POS 360 fixed im done with that crappy thing. I had my 360 for 9-10 months then it broke i sent it in and after a month that it was broke i got it took it straight out of the box plugged it in and it didnt even turn on then when i asked them if they fixed my xbox they said yes then i asked what they fixed and they said the fixed the three red lights on my xbox then i realized that it wasnt my xbox and when asking them they hesitated and said it was refurbished and all and so after saying they fixed my xbox not saying they gave me a new one I found out they gave me one that didnt even work so that is just bull and now instead of giving me a new one right away what do they do make me wait a whole other month
also i am wondering if they do not get me a new one right away i am wondering if this has any power as a lawsuit what do you all think
My 360 broke for the second time while I was playing mass effect and the screen went green so i turned it off and when I turned it back on it wouldn’t show that the controller was connected so then I tried my other controllers nothing happened and the screen was green still. Then I called MS and they said it was an AV cable problem and would ship me a new cable in 12-15 business days; I didn’t want to wait that long so I bought a new cable and it wasn’t the cable. So now I have to wait for the box to ship to me so I can ship it to MS.
Can someone please give me the tips to keep 360 from RRoD and any other problems it has
Buy 2 xbox 360’s and have one as a back up but make sure they have warranties on them. When you get it put it in the vertical position and have 2 small fans on both side of it to stop the overheating. DONT BUY THE NYKO INTERCOOLER it killed my 360 in an hour no joke. Also don’t buy the Pelican or any other attachable coolers because they void your warranty and break your 360
