Refined GM Maven car sharing service launches

GM has announced the launch of a new personal mobility service via car-sharing called Maven. Maven combines GM's multiple programs under a single brand and offers users access to personalized, on-demand services. Maven has more than 40 employees in the connected car industry and includes ride and car-sharing pros from Google, Zipcar, and Sidecar.

Maven is expanding in multiple cities around the country this week with services customized to city, residential, peer-to-peer, and campus programs. Maven is operating in Ann Arbor, Michigan and is focusing on faculty and students at the University of Michigan with GM cars in 21 parking spots across the city.

GM will roll programs out to other major metro cities later this year. Maven pricing includes insurance and fuel for the trip users take. In Q1 2016 car, sharing services will launch in Chicago via a partnership with Magellan Development Group. Maven is also expanding in NYC with it and the Chicago programs serving over 5,000 residents.

There are existing initiatives with peer-to-peer car sharing via CarUnity market place in Germany. GM also has various programs on GM campuses in the US, Germany, and China to test future Maven commercial offerings.
