Okay, SlashGear reports it sold out in the UK within 2 hours. I was up at the time and can vouch for the Farnell’s (element14) site being down (possibly due to load/traffic) for over half that time.

From what I know, Farnell’s stock of 10,000 units sold out within the first hour (some say less the 20 minutes). They then started taking pre-orders for the next batch. They also imposed some sort of “1 unit per order” policy.

Whoa Matti! Don’t get too excited just yet. Although the headline was somewhat attention-grabbing, the article failed to include any actual sales numbers. We don’t yet know if there were 100 or 100,000 or more units sold. Until Raspberry releases sales numbers, this is just a niche product and is likely to continue to be.

I hope this trend continues, with people outside the usual hacker/modder/Linux community getting interested and making orders. Would be a great thing to see a small company like this roast the big ones like Apple and Google in sales and newsworthy points.

I’ll let the initial pre-order dust settle before I make my order.
