Actually its probably compressed on the drive, so probably more than what size drive you need. However, I know an Ubuntu installation only needs around a 2GB drive to install with and you need around 8GB on your computer. So yeah, it seems a bit tiny of a drive for what is needed.

Removing the recovery partition frees up about 8GB of space. Not a huge chunk on the 128GB model, but on the smaller 64GB model it can make a difference.

Also, the surface pro installs its apps and software on the primary partition. The add-on memory cards can add storage space, but won't increase the volume used for apps to install. So even with an add-on card, you may 'run out of room' if you install a lot.

If you only need a 128 MB drive to capture the data being removed it seems that the most you would gain is 128 MB, which is one eighth of a GB. A very small percentage. Perhaps they meant a 128 GB drive?

Just get a 64GB SD card if you want more storage. That's why it comes with a SD card slot.
