Last week Sony released the v2.42 firmware for the PS3. It was a minor update that “improves the playback quality of some Playstation 3 format software.” Unfortunately, while it has affected PS3 software, it hasn’t been in a good way.
PS3 owners are reporting a variety of issues ranging from discs not playing to not being able to get online functionality to work. Unfortunately there hasn’t been any response from Sony thus far.
If these reports are indeed accurate (there are enough of them to make me think so), then that makes the second update in a row that Sony botched. The 2.40 release was heavily bugged, which prompted 2.41 getting released shortly after. Looks like we’ll need yet another patch.

Yup, 2.42 screwed up my online functionality.
my online works just fine
after updating to v2.42 i can’t play any blu ray or dvd movies, some games also don’t play. there are constant freezes whilst trying to save or load up new data in games. however although i know of a lot of people who are experiencing this similar problem, some of my cousins have found nothing wrong with theirs. i contacted sony about the issue, but they just sent me a “touble shooting” email outlining simply measures such as resetting the default setting. or upgrading to v2.42 (obviously they don’t read your emails as i specially detailed in my email that there was something wrong after i upgraded to v2.42) i haven’t tried a clean format yet but since i’ve bought some online games i’m not so keen on doing that and then having to buy them again from sony. i really did expect a lot more from sony…very disappointing
hey brad iam having the same problem as u do!!!! just after i haved downloaded everything was fine for a couple of days and till today i was getting problems,omg iam so worry,but the question is why just some ps3s ,why me?i think that the v2.43 should fix this,if not sony will **** every ps3,please if some1 knows when is going to be avaliable the new 2.43 let me know this is my e-mail ralf1983.15@hotmail.com,one of my problem is when iam about to begin a game in fifa 4 example barca vs man united,the screen gets black,justthinkin that my ps3 might get **** i get so stress!
