PS3 Firmware Update rumored to be on the way

It seems that the PlayStation 3 will be getting a firmware update shortly to 3.0 status. At least, that's what a new rumor is revealing. In fact, this update will set up a reputation system for the PlayStation Network.

This new system would allow you to rate and access other player's reputations. This is very similar to the system on Xbox Live, as you may recall. At this point, we're not sure if the rating system can lead to players being banned.

Apparently, the new firmware will allow game patches to download in the background just like Store downloads. Interface changes are also expected. We don't have an idea on the release date for this new firmware yet, but it may coincide with the 120GB PlayStation 3 launch rumored to occur this fall.
