so you are saying we should have cancelled the Mars mission, fired all those employees thus they don’t get paid, thus don’t spend money here on earth, thus not learning anything new about Mars and how we could eventually live there as well as inspiring a new generation in STEM? is that what you propose?

yes, this call just after landing would have been seen less as a political gesture. heck one before landing wishing them good luck would have been fine, but a week later is just pandering. especially since there are no planetary missions on the books thanks to the current budget slashing.

If this was 1998, I’d applaud this Mars mission. But at a time when 8.3% of Americans can’t find work, the deficit is in the trillions, and the rest of the world is killing us in everything, we need to get our priorities straight.
