If you are somewhere with access to electricity to charge the portable charger, probably no advantage, at least until the cost of the power pukks drop. However, if you're rough camping for an extended period, or in a disaster area with no power, they could be priceless - and other than the "geek" appeal, as I understand it that's the market expected to use these.

Can someone please explain what I'm missing about the PowerTrekk.

It is a charger for portable devices. Each PowerPukk will cost you $12 which will give you 4Wh nominal energy.

My Blackberry 9900 has a 4.6Wh battery. So one PowerPukk won't charge my battery fully? For $12.

I understand that the PowerTrekk has a battery built in, but when you can get 5000mAh portable chargers for less than $25, I don't see the point of this beside the cool tech.

Can someone please tell me what I'm missing?

Yep, the water (or any liquid with some percentage of water) is basically the trigger for the reaction. One problem with this vs batteries is that the reaction do not stop once initiated. So unless you have all your devices ready for charging there will be waste.
