Power/Rangers short movie is all kinds of dark

There's this thing you grew up with, and it was kind of cheesy, and you can acknowledge that as an adult. That doesn't dampen your fondness for it, of course, but now that you look at it with adult eyes you see all the parts that could have been, that would have been had you not been such a young not-yet-jaded soul. Power Rangers can be counted among those cheesy nostalgic staples, and thanks to "Dredd" product Adi Shankar, we can revisit that world with all its dark elements laid bare.

Power Rangers, of course, was a Saturday morning favorite in the 90s, featuring unassuming high school students who donned colorful suits and battled a variety of baddies. In Shankar's remake, the characters are no longer in high school, their lives are more complex, and their battles are considerably darker.

Katee Sackhoff plays Kimberly, the pink Power Ranger, James Van Der Beek plays Rocky, the red Power Ranger, and Russ Bain plays Tommy, the green Power Ranger. The end result is something likely far darker than what we'll eventually be getting from Lionsgate.

This isn't the only innocent bit of entertainment to become dark and far too real. One excellent version is the Super Mario Bros. short videos that surfaced back in late 2013, showing four or so of the game's top characters living rough lives trying to get by.
