Some insight into the accuracy of the article can be found by comparing a statement at the end to the actual facts. Chris states:

“Also note this fun find from another AVAST poll
which got the Presidential Election wrong (just about as wrong as it can
get, in fact), saying Romney would win with 290 electoral votes in the
end:”

He deliberately misquoted the Avast poll results; here’s the headline:

“Survey: AVAST Users Put Romney Ahead but Expect Obama to Win”

and although the next line infers what Chris claims, he obviously read far enough down to come up with the electoral count he quoted, he combined two sentences to fit his agenda.

“According to AVAST’s survey, 48.9% of users who are registered
voters said they will definitely vote for Romney, compared to 46.1% who
will vote for Obama. Interpreted by electoral votes, it gives 290 to
Romney and 230 to Obama.

As to who they think will actually win the election, however,
47.6% said Obama compared to 39.6% to Romney. This gives 349 electoral
votes to Obama and only 189 to Romney. Note the vast difference between
avast! users’ intentions and expectations.”

So maybe the poll that should be taken is one to determine Chris’ agenda.

I’m a full time IT specialist, been around for a while now.
Windows 8 has broken me… I do not want this crappy OS on my pc. 8 is good for a tablet not a pc. No ammount of bs from MS paid shills praising it will make this OS viable.
8 will never make it to our company’s machines. We have only around 30000 pcs worldwide and they will keep 7 on there. This release is worse than Windows ME.

I use my galaxy note for most of my of my computer things I have to do. My daughter has my tablet (Xoom) which I never use over my phone. Only really use the comp for organizing music files and file sharing, oh, and the disk drive which the tablet and phone don’t have. Thanks for the help and I’ll try calm down a bit using the comp. Found out that the next door neighbour is proficient with comps, so I’ll get her to give me a few lessons. Cheers

Fair enough, I’ve had plenty of days where I wanted to chuck my computer out the window. And performing advanced funtions in Windows or any other OS can be tricky if you aren’t 100% sure you know what you are doing. tbh, it sounds like you would benefit from buying an iPad or a similar device. They don’t have any advanced features whatsoever and you can’t download anything from the net or access the file system, but man the thing is stupid easy to use. The media player ended out working on normal discs but not with the ones I produced on my comp with XP on it and no I didn’t put copy protection on it. Pop up box warns me it could be bad download even on adobe upgrade? Why? I was really having a bad day with, so I suppose I should of calmed down before I wrote what I did, but still, it did have its merit. I think the copying of files happens when I left click on something when the cursor hasn’t stopped. I think I need to sit down with someone so they can go through all the little niggles with it and tell me how to stop them. Maybe its something in the menus that I have to click, but I have no idea what it says half the time. I have never been taught how to use one, just self taught and I wish that the comp would just use plain English in its pop ups and in the menus to make it easier to use.Funny thing is that I work for a media company installing TVs in hotels with mini computers playing the ads on them and the comps give me such a hard time. They stop for days on end and then they start for no apparent reason. There’s glitches and all sorts of stupid thing happening. Maybe because I was a carpenter, I expect things to be logical, and computers are anything but logical to work with. When something is broken, in my eyes, it should stay broken till I fix it. Computers seems to do anything they want without any logic at all. I don’t know how many comps I had to reimage, all along, I don’t understand what any of it means. I just know what buttons to press and in what order.

That sounds more like an issue with your particular system rather than windows 7 as an OS. I don’t experience any of those left click issues and I have 7 running on a whole range of hardware. I’ll grant you that the Microsoft file names are ridiculously long but come on, that is a problem that is SO easy to immediately fix. When the pop up says the location to install it, just change the file name. Done. As far as the “this file might be bad to download” issue, I agree with that pop up. Windows is known for getting a mot of malware, not because of the OS but because of the popularity of it. All this pop up is doing is warning people that might not know any better. Whats wrong with that? And as for the media player, if you don’t like the Microsoft default one, choose from 100′s of others. Lots of things I hate about it. Would take too long to explain. One example. Left click on something and sometimes it stats to copy it. I don’t want it copied. It just does it randomly. Also, went to download the latest media player from Ms, and all was fine till it said, download the file you need. Gave me two choices. Each name was a mile long that only differed at the end. None was in plain English. How the hell do I know what one I needed to download. Why didn’t it just say, here, download this to get the media player. Its crap like that, that annoys me. Stupid pop up boxes with error 404 or whatever. Nothing is just written in plain simple to understand English. Our what about this one, this is a classic. Go to download some file and up comes a box saying that this file “might “be bad to download, but it comes up with that even when its a safe file. Wtf. Its the computer, not me. It should just say if it is or if it isn’t, not just maybe

How tech savy are you? I obv don’t know but it sounds like not much if you are having this many issues with windows 7, an OS that everyone, MS fans and haters alike deem one of the best operating systems ever put out by anyone. You might be better off with a chrome book or an iPad, something that just works and you don’t need to think much with.

So basically you are judging the entire operating system by its media player capabilities? No offense but thats just stupid. One of the great things about windows in any intel form is that there are literally MILLIONS of software alternatives for anything you do, including media player. And I hate to break it to you, but the built in media capabilities of OSX are not that much better.

If you ever read my posts, you would realize I hate apple. Its just that I get so frustrated with windows. I used to scream at my computer with XP. With windows 7, I snapped my laptop in half. I really don’t know if apple computers are any better, but I have had a gut full of Microsoft. It gives me the shits. I hear there is an Android laptop but I need a tower cause my system is hooked up to my TV.

Anecdotal evidence as made me disbelieve the endless Windows 8 failure articles. My Nokia Lumia 920 is admired because of W8 and my MS Surface RT draws far too much attention if I’m using the Touch cover to write and have my Message/weather/news App up at the same time. The ipads and iPhones are so common no one notices, aluminum is the new Beige and my bank manager uses OSX.
In Manhattan Windows 8 has the buzz as who wants to use what their parents like?

After using windows 7, (just changed from XP) all I can say is, this is the most fucked up system I have used. Windows media player doesn’t rip CD’s, home made or not. Tried downloading media player again but that is impossible. Been trying for half an hour and have got nowhere. The whole thing is crap. I’m going to buy an apple computer and I hate apple, but anything is better than this piece of shit. Stick windows up your arse.

Dude, then you need to give away your PC and tablet and get yourself a Surface. That way you can file share, check emails, facebook and look for some shit with just one device.
Surface is not based on Phone OS, like others but a real OS with file system, multi-user access, folder shares, etc.

All tablets have their pro and cons, windows phones have always been let down by their hardware. I’m a carpenter, so a computer is of no real use to me apart from file sharing and putting my work receipts in. Have galaxy note phone and that does everything I need computer wise and, the majority of people in this world do not go to uni. As I said before, people who would only use computers to check emails and the such, couldn’t give a stuff about the operating system. Ok, I give it to you, how would windows 8 be more beneficial to me over XP (although I have windows 7) when I just use the comp because of the printer and file sharing.

Upgraded all machines to Windows 8, best Windows ever. The UI and learning curve, etc. is all bs. It takes few minutes to know how the screen corner works for left/right clicks and then everything is a easy.
Try it out, it is a must upgrade for all.

Your only experience must be with that bomb of a pc you have… Because nearly everyone at my collage wants a surface or convertable W8 pro machine… Why you ask? because it does what you said… tablet, great interface, does the basic and boreing collage work… oh and its windows so its cheap and not locked up like an apple… As for their phone…. Saying its “Half baked” clearly shows you’ve never even seen either wp7 or wp8 in person…

And i agree with Stigs… If you think xp is better than W7 you should just go back to knocking 2 stones together to make fire because you clearly just don’t like new things regardless whether their better or not
