I am a fan of music games like Guitar Hero and especially Rock Band. I have spent many a night making fun of my friends off key singing while playing Rock Band. I even have my share of aftermarket guitar controllers for the game. However, I draw the line at some of the stranger accessories like smoke kits and my own stage monitor speaker like the new HitMaster from Polk Audio.

The HitMaster is a single-point stereo speaker design that has a pair of 2.5″ x 5.5″ horns inside with a pair of 1-inch Neodymium tweeters that surround a 6.5″ woofer. The speaker cabinet measures 14″ W x 9.5″ H x 8.5″ D and weighs 13 pounds.

The speaker has a maximum power rating of 80 watts with 60 watts RMS. Total frequency response is 40Hz-20kHz. Polk also integrates a 1/8″ jack for direct connection to TVs, iPod’s and other devices that support a 1/8″ headphone output. The speaker is set to launch early in 2010 for $99.99.

Why is this a stretch? Compared to all the odd accessories flooding the market, a decent floor speaker makes sense, provided it really does sound better than a TV. I own Polk speakers and I’m a fan of their products. I’m looking forward to trying it out.
