Pokemon GO update reset account bug: what to do

A large OOPS has been found in the most recent Pokemon GO Update download, one that makes it appear that accounts have been reset. It'll look to the user like they're starting over from zero. It'll look like they've lost everything. They'll be freaking out and losing their mind over how much money they've spent on the game, only to have to start over from the beginning. If you know of anyone that's freaking out over this reset, please let them know that they have nothing to fear.

Today those users that've experience the apparent account reset for Pokemon GO should follow the following set of steps. This first set of steps is for iOS – iPhone or iPad. These steps come direct from Niantic, who say that this update causes some users to inadvertently create a new Pokemon GO account by unintentionally signing in with a different Google account.

iPhone / iPad reset account fix instructions

1. Either uninstall and reinstall the Pokémon GO app or sign out of your account (Pokémon GO>Main Menu>Settings>Sign Out)

2. Open Pokémon GO and select the Google login method.

3. You will be redirected to the Safari web browser to complete the login process.

4. Review the email address listed in the top right corner of the page. Ensure that the Google account presented is the same email address used when you originally created your Pokémon GO account. If the email address does not match the email address used to create your Pokémon GO account, please sign out of Google and log back in with the appropriate account.

5. Touch the "Allow" button and you will be redirected back to the Pokémon GO app.

NOTE: You may need to sign out of your account twice to ensure proper log out before signing back in with your correct account.

Users that've found themselves reset with Android, they'll need to do something ever-so-slightly different.

Android reset account fix instructions

1. Either uninstall and reinstall the Pokémon GO app or sign out of your account (Pokémon GO>Main Menu>Settings>Sign Out)

2. Open Pokémon GO and select the Google login method.

3. Pick the account that's associated with your main Pokemon GO account.

Man, those Androids have it easy.

No big deal – user accounts are still intact – there've been no reports of accounts actually, truly being reset, as Niantic has had no reset of account servers taking place. No need to panic, the stack of 399 Magikarp your best buddy has been adding to is still there, waiting for the last fish.
