The best thing about this year’s winner is that it is real and on-sale.

Last year’s winner, Folding Plug, is a design which is fundamentally unsafe, does not meet the requirements of BS 1363, and it would be illegal to attempt to sell it in the UK. It was an attempt by an art student to address an issue which requires engineering expertise, and with a complete lack of engineering experience on the panel of judges they failed to seek advice as to whether it was practical! Only a radical redesign, which would turn it into a different sort of folding plug, would result in a safe product.

What a farce. THIS won the design award? A snip at £19.95! You can buy low energy bulbs two for a pound at Morrison’s. Who would buy this pretentious rubbish? I wonder if the idiots who decided that this should win the award could possibly be benefitting financially in any way from all the free publicity it gets…
The fact that this joke of a design won the award speaks volumes about where this country is heading…

the most efficient by far is an led light this is not that and so by comparison wastes energy a lot of it.

Longevity of CFLs is complete BS. They advertise 3+ years of service, but burn out within a month. (incompatible fixture perhaps?) Because of that, it actually costs more to use them. I can’t imagine how the environment is benefiting from their use with all the additional mercury trash.

A bit expensive. I have CFLs in every socket in my house but I don’t think I’d cough up that much per bulb.

Ugh. CFLs. I swear they actually *absorb* light from a room. Can’t stand them. Almost as bad as minivans (another scourge of society).

I wont let a CFL anywhere near my house.
