Plex app hits Google TV

Streaming media service Plex has launched a Google TV version, putting its IPTV content on the latest version of Google's smart TV platform. All of the channels from the Android version of Plex are present, and the company says the "vast majority" of content will play, even with Google TV's limited transcoding support.

The one omission is the remote control functionality, which means you won't be able to control your laptop's playback from the Google TV interface. Considering that was really intended to turn an Android phone into a remote, that's probably no great loss. The Queue system is still present, so users can send videos to their to-watch list and then catch up with them later.

It's also possible to stop watching a show on your phone and then pick up playback on your Google TV box, handy if you want to finish a film you started on the commute home. You'll need a Google TV box running v2.0 of the software in order to access Plex, which is a free download from the Android Market.
