If you lack facility to describe or explain experience in any meaningful way then surely the mere act of having a blog of posting opinion or review of a product becomes purely egotistical in nature.

What's the use for Joe Bloggs who is searching for specific information in finding out that there are pompous writers out there who want to waste their time?

It's one thing to be a raconteur, someone with such character that readers dip into your life for a taste of you and your worldview, but people who write in such a way sell that as their product, in fact it's usually others who have told them that this is their role, others, their editors who have conditioned them for this, it's pretty darn obscene to think that's what you are yourself, that you're worth all that.

Here's the thing, almost anything can be explained to the inexperienced. In fact it's the foundation of literature and reportage, the very basis and reason for writing and communication. Take away the communication and what have you got left? Not a lot.

The job is to communicate.

Now you can cherry pick what it is you want to bring to your audience, what exactly it is you wish to divulge. It doesn't have to be your experience, it can be your fiction if you like, but it does have to be something pertinent. If you're going to the effort of trying to communicate and want an audience then treat them with a little respect and make it something that others would wish to read, not merely something you would wish to write.

I remember the comment and identified with it straight away. There had been so many critical reviews by people who had never used an iPad and I just knew they had no substance. They needed to wait for it to come out but they couldn't. Most of them should by now have eaten humble pie.

How can you explain the taste of ice cream satisfactorily to someone who has never eaten it? Much easier to eat it.

I get it, its disheartening to see how tech reviews have been "the be all and end all" of consumer tech purchasing experience. I understand consumer is looking for for cues, but no matter how deep the review is (Anand Tech) , it wont be the same until and unless you experience it.
I can equate this to restaurant reviews and usually on yelp. Its good to know to that a restaurant has 4 stars ( on an average most of them do in nyc). What I am not sure now is how it is impacting me. I would like to see people who review a place, what kind of lifestyle they have, what music they like and what common restaurants we like, it would then make a pattern and still maybe give me better idea, without that I am not sure if your rating of 1 star for place was because they played Thin Lizzy over 20 times in an expensive italian restaurant and it doesnt gel with you or you rated it 5 stars because you have happen to hear Snooki visits there often :P
