Pixavi Impact X rugged handset can take anything you blast it with

Rugged smartphones able to take varying levels of abuse are nothing new, but few of them are designed to survive as much as the new Impact X from Pixavi. The Impact X can, among other things, withstand explosions, making it nearly indestructible.

As far as hardware goes, the Impact X features a 4.3-inch display with a modest resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, which Paxavi says can be read in direct sunlight (a necessary feature for those working outdoors). The touchscreen can be used while wearing a glove, as a bonus feature.

Keeping in line with the mid-range specs is the camera, a 8-megapixel rear offering capable of recording up to 1080p via a dedicated camera button. There's an omni-directional microphone for calls, and stereo microphones for video recording. Bluetooth 4.0 is offered for pairing a headset.

The rugged features are what makes the phone most notable, and included among them is the ability to handle a 2 Joule impact, drops up to about 6 feet, explosion protection rated at IECEx and ATEX Zone 1, 2mm of Gorilla Glass, and a covered USB port. The phone is machined from a single piece of aluminium, as well, and runs Android 4.2.

Pixavi hasn't revealed the phone's price.
