If the man who first discovered fire, or the man who invented the wheel, charged his fellow tribesmen a fee every time they lit their own fire or carved their own wheel out of granite or wood, they would have either died of the cold or killed each other. Companies need to realise that regardless of how much they want to charge people for *every* song they download or every plastic part they print, It's not revenue "lost" because for most people it's a case of "Take it or leave it". If it's free they'll give it a try but if they had to pay for it they wouldn't bother. I've got about 3,500 films I have downloaded. 99% of those have already been broadcast on TV so I have paid for the right to watch them through my satellite subscription. It's no different than if I had recorded them onto a DVD and copied the DVD to my PC. Would I have bought any of them if I couldn't download them? No! Why not? Because I couldn't afford it. For all these do-gooders who say "If you can't afford to buy something, don't have it" - who loses out if I download it? The film company doesn't lose out because I wouldn't pay for it anyway!

Governments can't stop it any more than they have stopped music and video piracy. Even if they shut down the entire Internet (an intolerable situation for every business sxcept the movie and recording industry), there would still be the possibility of exchanging disks with friends - and the "six degrees" theory means that you could get any design (or movie, or CD) with no more than six exchanges between friends.
