Ha Ha, Lot's of enthusiasm there.
Alpine have a port at the rear for the ipod, which i have routed a lead from to the glove box.
Great head unit, but not as classy as this. Def changing my mind to this.

Indeed and error IMO. Alpine has won me with rear USB and iPod/Phone connector. That allowed me to have a phone holder on one side and an 8gB USB key in the glove box _always_ connected. Not sticking out of the front of the thing and forcing me to remove it every time I park.

Front USB albeit practical for quick use, is just unpractical for extended use. And gross.

I have been wondering how companies like Pioneer continue to make upgrade units for cars when most cars made today do not have the geometry to place upgrade units in the dash. Most upper level audio systems in cars are expensive to begin with. Ford on one hand has the Sync system with an upgrade to Sony that adds a relatively noble sound. But Sync itself sucks, because its designed by Microsoft who designs systems for nerds. The USB on Sync is on the dash, it should be in the center console to hide the wires of your mp3 player. Back in the day, I would drop a Grand to have the best system on the block, but today, my car better have all this shit built in or I won't buy it.

"Front USB does not mean that you need to connect iPod/iPhone there. There may be a back connection with a cord so you can “install” the phone holder somewhere else."

Agreed, front and back would be preferred. Except that the last generation of Pioneer products had a USB port on the front only. They completely removed the rear port. Not sure they've yet figured out the error of their ways.

Retard? Douchebag? Cunt? How old are you? But thanks anyway for the free medical opinion.

The point I'm trying to make is that I don't want a cord dangling from the head unit to my iPod. With a USB port on the rear of the device, I can easily route a cable from the unit to any other location in my car - such as the glove box, the center console, etc. I can easily connect my iPod to the end of that cable. Much cleaner than having a cord hanging from my dash.

Front USB is pretty useful for USB drive quick access. It may have both. Which would make me very interested in it.

I have mixed feeling about USB location, i understand some prefers back and don't mind the extra works, drilling a custom mounting location and whatno. The fact is not everyone has the time and patient to poke around. The best option is having both!!

I get to play with this unit at CES, the 8 bands eq is a big plus, built quality, graphic and interface is a step better than Kenwood 994 successor, which is still using the same 6 bands eq and same old flimsy chassis and buttons. I am thinking of upgrade my 994 to this one. :)

USB on the front of the unit? So I have a long cord hanging from the front of the unit to my iPod? Lame. What is Pioneer thinking? The USB port should be on the rear of the device. I do like the idea of a SD card slot. Now that could be on the front, but it's probably too deep for the removable face plate.
