mhh...where does the Java-based Android fit in here?

You don&#039;t need Java to build an integrated leightweight OS. Android is nice but I hope alternatives like MeeGo will survive. Otherwise I&#039;m gonna be stuck with some stripped down Debian or Ubuntu hobby project that doesn&#039;t tend to have the same level of support, albeit much higher degree of freedom..

Linux kernel takes about 1-2 seconds to boot. Everything else in todays standard distributions is userland and most of it is useless crap, starting from complex scripts that are designed to work regardless of whether you&#039;re running a server farm or netbook...]]></description>
