Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6 get Retina HiDPI update

Adobe has updated Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6 to suit Apple's Retina displays on select MacBook Pro models, refreshing the interface so as to make the most of all those extra smoothing pixels. The update, a much-anticipated and demanded one from users of the high-end Macs, was promised back in August, with Adobe saying at the time that nine titles from its CS6 suite would be fettled to suit HiDPI screens.

Those nine titles included Dreamweaver, Edge Animate, Illustrator, Lightroom, Photoshop, Photoshop Touch, Prelude, Adobe Premiere Pro, and SpeedGrade, though not Photoshop Elements. Lightroom 4.3 RC got Retina support in November, though Adobe's timescale for the other apps is a mystery at this stage. UPDATE: Per Adobe – It would appear that the team has indeed updated Premiere Pro CS6 and SpeedGrade CS6 for HiDPI displays in September and August of 2012, respectively – HD for all!

You can find the Photoshop CS6 update (13.0.2) here, where it's a 128MB download; alternatively you can update the app directly within Photoshop itself. The Illustrator CS6 update is here (16.0.3), a 23.1MB download.

Alternatively, if you're an Adobe Creative Cloud customer, the updated versions are now available for you to switch to as part of your subscription. Either way you get it, you'll have a crisper interface that's more suited to the high-power MacBook Pros or, indeed, other HiDPI displays you may have hooked up.
