I don’t think you have to have both plugged in at the same time. You can either plug into iPhone or Computer

I would personally use a wired end opposed to a fixed end or I guess in this case you will be forced to use a small USB extension. Dumb like you said, but I can see the market for it.

What a ridiculous concept. I see the usb breaking off from the weight of the iphone when inserted into the computer.
