Fianlly confirming what analysts have been predicting for a few years now, the company formerly known as Infinium Labs, Phantom Entertainment, has removed any and all references to their long-delayed Phantom Game Console from their site. The edits came with an announcement from Phantom that the Phantom Game Service will now be a normal Windows XP application and will deliver games over the Internet, a la Valve’s Steam service.
Phantom Game Console

This disappearing act follows an announcement made last February announcing that the oft-delayed console was to be put on indefinite hold, though most gamers had long-given up on any chance of seeing this machines make the light of day. All that remains on Phantom’s site now aside from the game service is Phantom’s keyboard, dubbed the Lapboard, which will run you $129.95 unless you order before September 30th (in which case you get $30 off). Still, given Phantom’s track record for on-time releases, I don’t think I’ll even consider one before I see that they actually exist.
