There should be a criminal investigation for government officials took money from carriers and who passed this measure without so much if a discussion on consumer rights and any benefits beyond those for the lobbying carriers.

1. Nothing is for free as you make it sound. If network providers were giving their phones for free none would be in business today. Today, they are among the richest companies in the world.

2. Even if you were right that means the network providers should supply a phone as soon as the phone is stolen or broken during the contract. Why I should pay for insurance or protection (casing) when the phone is not mine?

The whole thing is so stupid that will not achieve anything. Forcing consumers to pay more by using legislations should be illegal, period.

and the fact that it is a law does not make it right. Once the contract terms have been satisfied you are no longer bound by them.

Laws: descriptions of dos and don’ts written by a group of Law Makers, also known as Prophets, mainly in benefits of wealthy, corporation businesses, and the ruling governments. Any laws written in relation to the violence or even death are once again written to protect the mentioned minorities aganist the majority peasants on which these laws will be used also to prosecute crimes commited among peasants.

The biggest problems in our world stem from the laws themselves and the bodies create and manage them.

You can call me a criminal (potentially) while I talk about a basic consumer right. Justice (morally and logically sound to the majority) will prevail sooner or later on this matter.

Ok, which wireless carrier do you work for? Do you really think that everyone that’s trying to unlock a phone is a crook? Do you not know how many people paid retail or close to it to get an iPhone and bring it to T-Mobile when AT&T had the iPhone on lockdown?

How badly do you want to throw away money? Just like when you’re done buying a car, it’s yours. Again, paying full price does not guarantee the ability to unlock a phone. Under this law you need the carrier to unlock the phone and by all rights(mostly granted by this law) they can hold your phone captive to their network.

Translation: I just willfully violated the law for my own personal gain. I only stole from a large evil corporation that is not ran by people, and they do not employ people, see it’s really just a victimless crime. Actually, I’m the victim here, can’t you see!!!! Yes, but you bought the phone under a contract, and with that contract comes certain stipulations. You bought those as well.

Even after you’re no longer under contract the law still stands. You cannot EVER unlock the phone without carrier permission.

The reasoning behind the law was, and is, solid: You do not own your phone. While you are under contract, the phone is still owned by the carrier. I get that you don’t like it, that’s fine. You can sign all the petitions you want, but they’ll do you no good. There is already a solution: Buy your phone. Pay the full price, and own it.

The law is ridiculous… I didn’t know this petition existed or I would have signed it.. but more likely I would have signed a petition that states that the carrier must choose: Allow the device to be unlocked or legally bind the carrier to continue supporting the phone including major OS upgrades. Let’s face it… our phones are computers now. How many would buy a laptop if they knew that not only could they not upgrade the OS, even if it was capable of it, but the manufacturer would stop supporting it, including new OS’s after only 6 months or a year?

Everyone that owns a mobile phone(in the US), under contract or not should sign this petition. It should have way more signatures than one to build the deathstar. Even if you don’t plan on switching carriers, don’t you like the ability to make that choice? Do you want to be stuck under the boot of a wireless carrier just because you want a new phone(cheap)? Sign the damn petition….please.
