I enjoyed the brainwashing. They came out to my house and applied the electrodes. In the background, Steve Jobs presentations were played at low volume to sooth any difficulties I might have in accepting the new programming. Now I am compelled to buy any and all Apple products without question.

In other words, you’re an idiot. Nobody gets brainwashed. Certainly not by Apple. All they do is build compelling products. The rest is up to you. Then again, with your compulsive need to hate Apple, perhaps you’ve been brainwashed?

Faster = More Heat. Period. End of story. I don’t understand why these supposed “tech” writers don’t get that. The iPad is using a processor and quad-core enabled graphics subsystem with a MASSIVE battery. Of course more of that electrical energy will be dissipated as heat.

As for the 4G issue; some people are too stupid for their own good. If you can’t understand the principle of a “data cap”, then perhaps you should stick to the WiFi enabled version only. I mean seriously people, have you NO impulse control!?

It’s pretty rare and so far seems it’ll likely only happen when in a hot environment. Especially under a hot sun, but otherwise should be alright in most cases.

Though there’s another possible issue with charging in which either the system is using too much power to charge or a similar heat issue is preventing charging as they system could suspend charging if the system got too warm to protect the battery from the heat.

The particular type of lithium battery Apple is using is great for capacity but it’s not so great for heat tolerance.

While power consumption can still make charging take a lot longer unless system is turned off. The back light alone uses about 30% more power than the iPad 2 screen for example and that’s also why they had to increase the battery capacity by about 70% to keep the same run time despite the higher power consumption.

Also the brighter back light may also be part of the reason why the system runs a little hotter, along with the quad GPU and higher load on the battery.

As for the original question: you put anything up on a pedestal and you have to expect people to try to throw things at it to knock it down. It’s human nature. But Apple is just going to have keep their chin up, hold their head high and hope for a less harsh future as they rake in millions and millions and millions and millions of dollars this quarter.

Im using one right now, upgraded from the original iPad and all I can say is wow. I never dreamed of streaming video over cellular data. I use cellular mostly for emergencies and while a passenger in a car. It’s warmer than my original iPad, but the original NEVER got warm at all. It’s the second most amazing thing I’ve used. The first being my company MacBook air 13″. That thing is just blow away awesome.

Apple is a big target. Apple’s universal brand recognition guarantees more readers. It’s the reason that you always hear “Apple” in connection to Foxxconn, even though many other branded gadgets are assembled there.

I don’t see much of a problem here. It’s up to the owner of the ipad to watch their data limits and while the heat issue may present people with some sweaty palms/fingers as long as it’s not preventing owners from holdong it for long periods then it too is no biggie. I did read somewhere that some ‘tests’ had the ipad get so hot that it would give you the dreaded ‘ipad needs to shutdown’ message. If thats the case and people are having to watch their device shut off on them in the middle of a game or something then Apple definetly screwed up.

Yeah, unless the heat being dispersed in the unit messes anything else up under the hood. Laptops and CPU’s have fans to cool the heat off. iPad’s not so much.

Some are just looking to be that ‘guy’ whose name gets printed for thinking they found a potential flaw in the Apple product, why, cause it’s a never ending story on all the electronic news lines.
I bought the new iPad and it works and plays fantastic. This garble of the iPad reaching nuclear heat and melting onto people’s laps are out of control. I wonder how many of those that ‘complained’ have brought them back.
