PC sales will be Vista-only in 2008

You might want to go ahead and hop on the Vista bandwagon, because after the end of the year you won't be able to buy a new PC with XP on it anymore.

Some people might think that it's not a big deal. But having worked for a corporate IT department, I know there are many businesses out there that won't even think of switching their PC's to Vista for a couple of years. Other home users don't want to have to deal with the new security features and software incompatibility issues. Who can blame them?

The good news is that you'll likely still be able to find OEM copies from various online stores. So you can buy your shiny new PC with Vista, then buy a copy of XP to put on it. However, if that option doesn't suit you, there's always MacOS or Linux.
