Too broad or too narrow? No doubt. Like the ridiculous multitouch patent Apple once again is trying to destroy every competition, because inductive charging as described above isn’t new at all.
Patents like this create uncertainty, which generally leads to negotiations (according to CCIA) and now patent lawyers for Apple show up with a big stack of accordion files, Google’s lawyers come with their stack, Samsung with their stack and back-room patent cross-licensing begins.
That’s not innovation. Realise this Apple.

I just patented the left armed sneeze block. That’ll be $15.00 please, per sneeze block. You could sneeze block with your right arm, but that’s clearly a derivative of the left armed sneeze block. A block with the right arm will only cost you $14.00 per sneeze block. Now that I think about it, using anything to block a sneeze is a derivative of the left armed sneeze block. Kleenex? Check. Towel? Check. Pay up.

Yeah. The parent system has gotten way out of control. Classic example of ridiculousness in action.

What’s the real point? Inductive charging is much less efficient than just normal charging. With everything trying to be eco friendly, this seems counter-intuitive to that ideal….

I know a quick and easy way to cause things such as this to go away….let Al Gore know. I’m sure he’ll make a movie about it and cause it to just die.

Next step for Apple after filing a patent app for an inductive charger? Sue the pants off of Powermat for “stealing” Apple’s designs and ideas.

OMG…I can’t believe some idiot is going allow this to be a patent. Geeky kids were doing this in the 60s and up. I did this stuff as common knowlege in the 70s and 80s. There is absolutely nothing new or groud breaking in this usage or technology. This is why the patent system is so bad for business. Hope they never patent the left armed sneeze block.
