If these are the patents in question and their is prior art to be found, why haven't the dozen or so companies just told MSFT to leave them alone?

Ever wonder why Microsoft legally gags their victims with tight non-disclosures to prevent their victims from going public with the details of these so-called 'patent violations'? That's because Microsoft's claims are as follows:

1. '372 Patent (Web browser background image loading).

2. '522 Patent (Operating system provided tabs).

3. '551 Patent (Electronic selection with handles).

4. '233 Patent (Annotation of electronic documents).

5. '780 Patent (Web browser loading status icons).

Anyone who has worked in the IT industry for the last 30 or so years will clearly be able to identify prior art in most of the above. The rest are quite trivial.

One has to wonder why Google isn't doing anything, and why these manufacturers don't seem to mind that Google isn't doing anything.

Google's prolonged muteness on the matter just adds weight to the argument that MS's patents do have a case. They're quickly getting the reputation of a company that only wants it's ads on as many devices/accounts as possible, not caring about their partners (this case) and users (overall android fragmentation).

I hope they do something to prove me wrong here. The last thing I want is to see is MS (or any corporation, for that matter) make this sort of practice a trend in the tech-world.
