Do you remember back when the Wii came out? It seems like ages ago, but it was only a little over a year ago. People were really excited to get one. So excited in fact, that they would forget to keep a firm grip on their Wiimote and send it crashing through their very expensive flat panel TVs. While Nintendo has taken several precautions to ensure flying Wiimotes are a thing of the past, Panasonic is doing their part to keep your TV in one (working) piece.

Panasonic has actually developed a Wii-proof TV as a direct result of the sensless TV destruction of late 2006/early 2007. Unfortunately the TV isn’t LCD, but rather a plasma. It actually didn’t take much effort to make sure the new TV could withstand up to 4 joules of energy. If you don’t know much about that scientific stuff, it takes around 1 joule to lift an apple 2 meters in the air.
I was sort of hoping that they’d managed to make a good-looking LCD that could stand up to a real beating from a Wiimote. Oh well, I don’t plan on chucking any controllers at my TV anytime soon, so i should be fine.

i have seen the funny pics of wii controllers going through windows and tvs lol…hopefully this one is really wii proof
I think that’s awesome. Go Panasonic. To the author whining about it not being an lcd, don’t get your hopes up because panasonic focuses on plasma, at least for their larger TVs. And I don’t see how they could do the same thing with an lcd anyway. What I don’t get is what everyone’s beef with plasma is. All the stupid rumors that go around about plasma TVs are utter nonsense as long as you get a decent one(such as panasonic).
