Photos can be deceiving when it comes to size – for instance, I myself look perfectly normal in pictures, but in actual fact I’m only 7mm tall – so it’s always good to see gadgets compared to something else in order to be able to say whether they’re slim’n’sexy or fat’n'frumpy.  These live photos of Palm’s latest smartphone, the Centro, will please as many as they disappoint; up close to a BlackBerry Curve it’s obviously a dinky little cellphone, but will that make those jewel-like QWERTY keys tricky to use?

Nonetheless, the Centro will be a pleasing sight to many who have been waiting for an up-to-date handset running Palm’s venerable but beloved OS.  Apparently having much the same innards as the Treo 755p, only with EV-DO, it doesn’t promise to be a powerhouse but I’ve no doubt it’ll find a market among those who prize convenience and simplicity above whizz-bang complexity.

Previous rumours have pegged the smartphone as being exclusive to Sprint for the first ninety days, priced at around $99 with a new contract, before becoming available through other carriers.  These are unconfirmed, however, so don’t write your checks quite yet.

Dang it looks almost as big as my graphing calculator. I would be curious to see it in person in my palm just to see how it feels and if I would personally like it. I usually don’t like big phones but I could like this phone.
