chrome logoBack when a Google-branded Chrome OS netbook was tipped for late 2010, we were still in the dark regarding potential specifications for the web-centric ultraportable.  Now IBTimes is claiming to have the official spec sheet, and as speculated there’s both an ARM-based CPU and NVIDIA’s Tegra chipset among the components.  There’s also a 10.1-inch display with multitouch-capable touchscreen mentioned, able to display HD – likely 720p – video, together with a 64GB SSD and 2GB of RAM.

nvidia fermiNVIDIA’s Fermi 40nm GPU won’t make its expected late-2009 launch, and nor will it be ready in time for CES 2010 in January, according to DigiTimes’ sources at graphics card manufacturers.  The rumor-mongers claim that NVIDIA have been telling producers to only expect the DirectX 11-compatible Fermi chips in March 2010, and suggest that defects have prompted the delay.

NVIDIA haven't held back recently with their Ion 2 news, but it's good to see the company reconfirming their plans to launch a Pine Trail-compatible version of the graphics chipset and attach a date to its roll-out.  As we heard before, the new Ion 2 for Intel Pine Trail will be a standalone GPU rather than the combined Northbridge/GPU chipset as offered for the current Intel Atom models, and it's arriving in Q1 2010.

ICD’s 15-inch Android Vega tablet had us curious enough about the company, and now they’ve surprised us even more by unveiling a second Android-based device.  The ICD Ultra has a 7-inch touchscreen, integrated 3G, WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1, and like the Notion Ink smartpad we showed you yesterday, it uses an NVIDIA Tegra T20 chipset.

CES 2010 is likely to see a fair few internet tablets being announced, but SlashGear has heard about one particular model that has more than a little promise. Notion Ink’s as-yet unnamed Android “smartpad” is based on an unnanounced NVIDIA Tegra T20 chipset supporting 1080p Full HD video playback, has integrated WiFi, Bluetooth and UMTS/HSDPA, and – perhaps most interestingly – is the first confirmed device to use the Pixel Qi transflective display. Notion Ink are saving the live hardware shots for CES – hence the renders – but they did send us some photos of the 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 Pixel Qi panel in action, which you can see after the cut along with the full specifications.

thumb nvidia ion geforce 9400m 480x319NVIDIA have officially confirmed that the next-gen “Ion 2” (not the final name) graphics chipset is in the works, but it won’t be arriving quite as soon as many had hoped.  The company told Fudzilla that the Ion 2 won’t see an official launch until later in Q1 2010, as opposed to the Q4 2009 unveil we’d expected; that’s apparently because hardware manufacturers want to milk a few more sales out of first-gen Ion devices before the new chip arrives.
