SlashGear Week in Review: Week 43 2010

Welcome to this week's edition of the SlashGear Week in Review and Happy Halloween! Monday a Verizon Android smartphone for the coming LTE network was spotted. The device has no name yet, is said to support HD video capturing, and appears to have a front camera for video calls. A Dutch subsidiary of Microsoft let slip this week that Windows 8 is under construction. The next OS from Microsoft is about two years away, though no one will be surprised if that launch date slips.

Windows 7 consumer tablet announcement on October 11?

Microsoft is bringing Windows Phone 7 along to New York City on October 11th 2010 - and we'll be there to tell you all the details - but according to a new report that's not the only thing the company will be discussing.  Neowin has heard from sources that Microsoft execs will also be discussing the company's tablet plans, including announcing - or at least previewing - a portfolio of devices that should be on sale in time for the holiday shopping season.

ViewSonic G Tablet Features Android 2.2 & NVIDIA Tegra 2

ViewSonic G Tablet Features Android 2.2 & NVIDIA Tegra 2

ViewSonic is on a roll with their tablet creations. Having just seen the ViewSonic ViewPad at this year's IFA, and noticing that it dual-boots Windows and Android, we're shocked to see that this other 10-inch display tablet isn't that. In fact, it doesn't even dual-boot Operating Systems. Instead, it angles for a more pristine Android 2.2 approach, all of which you'll enjoy on a ten-inch display.

RAmos W9 Android 2.x slate packs HDMI

The approaching onslaught of Android tablets continues apace, with the RAmos W9 tipping its hand in the shape of some engineering prototypes.  PC Online grabbed some playtime with the 7-inch Android 2.x slate - which will take on not only the iPad but Samsung's Galaxy Tab - and confirm that it will run one of Rockchip's newer, faster processors (tipped to be the 1GHz RK2818).

ViewSonic MB-P702 PMP/ereader surprises by not being a tablet

ViewSonic MB-P702 PMP/ereader surprises by not being a tablet

We'll admit, we were so intrigued by ViewSonic's ViewPad 7 and ViewPad 100 last week, we didn't spot their MB-P702 PMP/ereader at the booth.  According to imp3, the 7-inch slate may look like yet another tablet, but actually it's a whole lot more focussed than the similarly-sized ViewPad 7.  No Android, no web browsing or Google Maps; just 1080p HD video playback with an HDMI output.

IFA 2010 Wrap-Up

IFA 2010 Wrap-Up

IFA 2010 isn't quite finished yet - the show continues through until midway next week - but it's had its stab at the major headlines. Would-be iPad "killers" and 3D were this year's themes, with Panasonic, Sony, Sharp and others all trying to convince us that the 1080p HDTV we bought a couple of years ago should really be traded in for a new, 3D-capable set. Product of the show, though, has to be the Samsung Galaxy Tab, with the Korean company delivering a slate that we consistently heard people say was significantly more appealing than they expected.

Huawei Ideos U8150, S7 tablet & Hx concept hands-on [Video]

Huawei are another company going in for Android in a big way, already behind several of the operator-branded budget smartphones on the market and hoping to follow up that success with the new Ideos U8150, a Froyo 2.2 smartphone with what's tipped to be a roughly $150 unsubsidized price tag.  As well as playing with the U8150 at IFA 2010 today, we also grabbed a fleeting moment with the Ideos S7 tablet and a (non-functional) Huawei prototype for their idea of a potential gaming MID.
