Sony defends sluggish PSN leak warnings; Some PSN services back “within a week”

After admitting that the personal details of the 42m+ PlayStation Network users have been leaked, Sony has argued that it couldn't warn subscribers of potential data loss when the system was first taken down because it took "outside experts" to confirm it. According to Nick Caplin, SCEE's head of comms, the delay involved in "forensic analysis" explains why it took the company so long to warn users that their information had been compromised.

But now, a source closely connected with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) reports that the attack is much deeper than admitted by Sony. The source claims that the PSN sustained a LOIC attack (which created a denial-of-service attack) that damaged the server. Plus, it received concentrated attacks on the servers holding account information and breached the Admin Dev accounts.

PSN down for unknown reasons, Sony investigating

PSN down for unknown reasons, Sony investigating

If you tried to fire up your PS3 and go onto the PSN last night and today, you have undoubtedly noticed that the network is down. This is an irritation to all PS3 users even if you don’t play games that require the network since many of them will constantly ask you if you want to connect to the network. I know Gran Turismo 5 nearly drove me crazy asking last night when I realized the network was down. The interesting part about this outage is that Sony apparently has no idea what caused it.

Can Sony ban gamers that hack PS3 without them connecting to PSN?

Sony has decided to voraciously go after the people that offer up hacks and mods for the PS3 console this week after some hacks have surfaced that render existing Sony security on the PS3 moot. Then sign up for PSN+ -- no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It may have not been a big deal to everyone, but there's always a few people out there that don't want to pay extra for something they're already going to have to pay for. Hulu Plus on PS3 Could Mean Mandatory Subscription to PSN+

Yesterday, Hulu made waves with the announcement of the much-rumored Hulu Plus. A brand new subscription-based methodology to stream your favorite TV shows, whenever you want. For just $9.99 per month, you'll get your hands on the "Season Ticket," which will let you watch any episode of a particular season, with no expiration date (which is the general rule of thumb on Hulu right now). And, with that announcement, came the revelation that Sony's PlayStation 3 would be getting support as well in the near future. But, there could be some very important fine print not quite revealed.

Sony PS3 blocking PSN access: clock issue to blame?

Sony PS3 blocking PSN access: clock issue to blame?

Trouble is afoot with the first through third generation of PS3 consoles - basically all of them bar the newest PS3 Slim - as what appears to be a date-related issue blocks access to the PlayStation Network.  Those gamers attempting to access the PSN are unable to sign in, nor play games, use dynamic themes or view and/or synchronize their trophies; meanwhile the PS3's clock is reset to 12/31/1999.
