Frequency has announced support for the Fire TV, Amazon's new streaming dongle, bringing socially-curated movies and TV to the set-top box. Already supported on iPhone and iPad, as well as certain Samsung smart TVs and other platforms, Frequency pulls in content from AP, National Geographic Wild, and thousands of other online sources into individualized "channels".
This week at the media event where Sony announced the PlayStation Vita Slim, hardware marketing executive John Koller spoke up on the future of the PlayStation 3. For those of you out there already rolling with this console, not planning on upgrading to a PlayStation 4 any time soon - there's good news. In Koller's chat with Gamespot, the PlayStation 3 was said to have two, three, or four years of life left in it, with plenty of games to come.
This week the folks at Sony have revealed two new large-display-toting smartphones, both of them with rather similar specifications and an aim for international release. Both the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra dual work with 6-inch displays with 720p resolution and TRILUMINOUS technology alongside the company's own Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 for mobile. They've got 1.1-megapixel cameras up front, 13-megapixel cameras around the back, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core 1.4GHz processor inside with 1GB of RAM.
Gamers might soon be kissing DVDs and huge downloads goodbye, at least if their games mostly come from Sony's PlayStation catalog. Although no demo was available at CES 2014, Sony has announced the next big leap in game streaming via a new PlayStation Now service coming first to the US.
The Sony PS4 game console has recently launched in the US to high demand and short supply. Sony had previously announced the apps that would be available for launch on the PS4 in the US, including Netflix and Hulu Plus. A new streaming application for PS4 buyers in the UK was announced today.
Samba TV, formerly known as Flingo, today released a slew of apps for Sony devices, including Bravia TVs, Blu-ray Disc players, and Blu-ray Home Theater devices patched into Sony Entertainment Network. The apps detect what is playing on your connected smart TV and automatically push related interactive content, which can then be accessed on second-screen devices such as smartphones and tablets or via the TV. This development expands Samba TV's reach to 30 million devices worldwide.
