Nokia Lumia Icon “directional audio” picks fight with Galaxy S4

Nokia's new Lumia Icon may have fairly distinctive looks, but it's what it hears that the Finnish firm is most proud of. The phone's PureView camera system introduces what Nokia is calling "directional audio" recording, which uses twin microphones on the rear of the Verizon exclusive to focus what sound is picked up and what gets ignored. Nokia is so excited by it, it even put it up against an Android best-seller to show the difference; see the demos after the cut.

Samsung Galaxy Gear is first of a smartwatch family

Samsung intends the Galaxy Gear to be the first of a family of smartwatches, with the company aiming to release a range of models much as it has broadened its Galaxy smartphone line to cover multiple price points and sizes. The reception to the Galaxy Gear, announced at Samsung's pre-IFA Unpacked showcase earlier this week, has been mixed, with many questioning the premium pricing of the smartwatch - around $299.99 at launch - along with the actual value the wearable delivers. According to Samsung, however, there's not only a market for the Galaxy Gear among owners of big-screen phones like the Galaxy Note 3, but for a number of companion devices.

Samsung Galaxy Gear to be sleeker than leaked prototype smartwatch

Images and details purportedly showing the Galaxy Gear - an Android-based wearable, expected to take a fitness slant - emerged earlier today, showing a bulky and potentially cumbersome design that led some to prematurely declare the project a dead-end. Galaxy Note III specifications tipped by display leak [UPDATE]

The Samsung Galaxy Note III has been all but confirmed by Samsung in an invitation to a September 4th event, and today's leak of a series of photos of the device's frontside display show what the machine is made of. What we've got here is a set of pictures photographed by eTrade Supply, they claiming the legitimacy of these images as the final piece of hardware we'll need to put the whole picture together. While it may seem that the 5.7-inch display of the Galaxy Note III is ready to roll, we'll still need to wait (on the other hand) for Samsung to give the full run-down on what next-generation software features this device will be appearing with right out of the box.
