It would appear that the New York Times has decided to speak up in regards to their recent review of the Tesla Model S electric vehicle, having been the subject of some major scrutiny a the hands of no less than Elon Musk, the car company's CEO. One of the larger stories of last week was that according to the Model S' own in-vehicle logs, the editor responsible for the review of the vehicle didn't follow the plans and suggestions made by the Tesla review crew - nor did he refrain from driving donuts through a parking lot. Now the New York Times is speaking up through editor Margaret Sullivan.

This week Matthew Inman from the illustrated blog and comic The Oatmeal initiated a funding project which would help pay for the public purchase of Nikola Tesla's original laboratory site for use as the first USA-located Tesla museum. In Inman's request (which of course took the form of an illustrated comic-like plea), he suggested that the Tesla auto company donate to the cause. The auto company is owned by none other than Elon Musk, who the folks at Jolopnik got in contact with, who agreed just this morning to donate online.

Right after the folks at NASA successfully landed their Curiosity rover on the red planet, entrepeneur and real-life Tony Stark made it clear that he'll be there between 12 and 15 years from now. "We know it's possible to get there," he said, "You would be moving to Mars, so a round trip ticket, it has to be no more than half a million dollars, so roughly, a middle-class house in California, and at this point, I would say, I know it's possible." He let it be known via Nightline that he was confident "at this point" that it could be done, that people would be living on Mars sometime in the future, and that it's our "life raft" for the future of the species.

In it's historic first-ever mission lead by a private company accessing the Internationl Space Station, the SpaceX group have now not only delivered their cargo, but have safely returned their newest Dragon model spacecraft back to the planet as well. This event makes the Dragon spacecraft a holder of two fantastic space-related records, the other being that it was the first comercially-built and operated spacecraft to be recovered successfully from orbit. SpaceX is at the head of these feats, with CEO Elon Musk greeting the pod as it splashed down in the Pacific Ocean earlier today: "welcome home baby."

Tesla’s first battery-swap station opening by year-end

Tesla will open its first battery-swap station within the next few months, the electric car company has confirmed to SlashGear, offering drivers of the Model S a ninety second way to "refuel" their cars. First demonstrated in June 2013, the battery exchange system eschews even the rapid charging of Tesla's Supercharger network in favor of a wholesale exchange of the batteries themselves. The process would be fully automatic, too, meaning the driver won't even need to step out of the car in order to replenish their charge levels.
