Last we heard – and admittedly it was a long time ago, all the way back in October last year – Belkin’s FlyWire wireless HD/HDMI system was “delayed”.  Now Belkin admit that the system’s proposed $1,499 sticker price “would be out of line given the current state of the economy” and have thus pulled the plug.

kindlecrackintroAs you’ve probably heard by now, Amazon has come under fire recently for the screens on the Kindle 2. Apparently, they’ve been cracking left and right and Amazon was requiring people to pay a $200 replacement fee to have them fixed.

But a $5 million class action lawsuit brought up yesterday against the company seems to have done the trick, as Amazon has just announced they’ll be repairing Kindle 2 models for free. Well, replacing is more the right word.

The Amazon Kindle 2 currently costs $299, so a $200 replacement fee was rather outlandish, especially for what seems to be a design flaw–not carelessness by Kindle owners. But it looks like everything is solved now.

EVGA have announced a new LCD display, the InterView 1770, which offers not one but two 17-inch panels fixed to a single central stand.  The 1440 x 900 panels each rotate 180-degrees horizontally, so they can be flipped completely around to show a person sitting opposite you, or clamshell in to fit into a narrow cubicle.

Intel has continued its attempts to coax the industry into CULV (consumer ultra-low voltage) so-called “ultra-thin” notebooks rather than netbooks, highlighting the shortcomings of the latter devices which, ironically, are generally based on the company’s own Atom N270 processor.  Speaking during Intel’s earnings conference call on Tuesday, CEO Paul Otellini described ultra-thins as “an affordable notebook that has more functionality [than a netbook].”

What’s that, you say?  Why, it’s ASUS’ Eee PC 1101HA, the 11.6-inch Atom Z520 model from the company’s slippery Seashell range, and it’s sat next to the packaging it so recently was unboxed from.  It’s the handiwork of NewGadgets.de, who have managed to acquire one of the netbooks over in Europe.
