Manli’s new netbook, the M3, has fallen into the hands of NetbookNews over in Taipei, and they’ve done the only noble thing and unboxed it on video.  While the M3 may look like every other netbook around, it does deliver one or two interesting features: a fingerprint reader, for security, together with an ExpressCard 34 slot, and inside there’s also a free mini PCI Express slot ideal for dropping in a 3G modem card or GPS receiver.

Sonos have put up a preliminary product page for their new Sonos Controller 200 (CR200), and with it confirmed the device’s specifications.  Of most interest is the fact that the 3.5-inch VGA resolution touchscreen is capacitive, shortly followed by the bulk and weight drop over the original CR100: the new remote measures 2.9 x 4.5 x 0.7 inches and weighs 6oz.

If you thought Google’s OS ambitions would end with Android, think again.  The search giant has announced Google Chrome OS, an “open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks”, and which promises a start-up to internet-ready delay of just seconds.

Sony announced their DVDirect VDR-MC6 today which is set to replace the VDR-MC5 DVD recorder. This new model allows the transfer of SD and HD videos and photos from your camera to DVDs directly. No PC needed.

Sony revealed two new models in their HD Handycam line today. They are the HDR-CX500V and the HDR-CX520V which feature a backlit CMOS sensor and dramatically improved visuals.

Canon introduced three new photo printers today that sport quite a few new features that you’ll likely be interested in. First up is the PIXMA MP560, which is an all-in-one inkjet that sports duplex printing, photo correction and Wi-Fi.

Palm’s big news for today was it’s announcement of the GSM Palm Pre and the exclusivity deals the company has carved out with O2 in the UK, Ireland and Germany, and Movistar in Spain.  We had the opportunity to sit down with Palm and O2 today, and talk about what changes they’ve made to the smartphone, how they see it sitting in a range dominated by the iPhone 3GS, and why European customers will have to wait until the Christmas holidays before they can pick one up.

We could argue forever about whether a 12.1-inch laptop is a notebook or a netbook, but either way this is what Chinese firm GB have on offer in the X1200.  Their MacBook Air lookalike seems destined to get them kicked off of the Intel preferred pricing scheme, as it uses the 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor with a 160GB hard-drive and 1GB of RAM.

We’re used to our mobile devices flashing at us to let us know when there’s a missed call to be addressed, new SMS message or battery problem, but it’s less common for a notebook or netbook to blink for attention.  JustBlair decided to change that, adding a three-color LED to his Eee PC 901 that flashes whenever a new Twitter, email or IM message comes in.

Earlier on today we told you about Viliv’s Korean prices and specifications for their upcoming S7 convertible touchscreen UMPC; now we have word on the international versions.  Not only will these offer the same Intel Atom Z520 1.33GHz processor, but there’ll also be a “flagship” model with a 2.0GHz Atom processor (likely the Z550), a 32GB SSD, integrated 3G and a free upgrade to Windows 7.
