Signs of the next-gen iPod touch have been showing up in application analytics, according to Pinch Media, with several incidences of a mysterious “iPod3,1″ listing turning up in software for the touchscreen PMP.  The second-gen iPod touch, currently on sale, shows up as the “iPod2,1″, leading Pinch Media to assume this new record – which has been spotted in “the larger, more popular applications” for the platform – indicates that Apple is testing their next-gen hardware.

LaCie have given their LaCinema Rugged multimedia hard-drive an HD upgrade, in the shape of the unsurprisingly-titled LaCinema Rugged HD.  The 500GB external hard-drive keeps the shock-resistant chassis, HDMI port and remote control, but now supports 1080p high-definition media in H.264, MKV, WMV9 and MPEG-4 formats.

The first purported screenshots of Google’s Chrome OS have leaked, courtesy of a snap-happy Acer parts supplier and a momentarily careless Google demo rep.  Apparently taken at the end of a demonstration of Chrome OS for Acer, installing the software in just 10 minutes on a formerly Vista Acer Extensa 4620Z laptop, even this early build of the platform showed its speed credentials: a desktop to desktop reboot in around 25 seconds.

UPDATE: The screenshots are fake, as we suspected might be the case.  Just a video designer hoping to drum up business. 7/9/2009

We’re not entirely sure what’s going on here, but it looks as though a Chinese firm is attempting to sell what are claimed to be prototypes of the Crunchpad internet tablet.  Reminiscent of the “Prototype B” design, rather than the newer renders TechCrunch have been displaying, the confusing product page and Windows OS leads us to suspect that this is more about borrowing Crunchpad hype than it is selling off prototype designs.

Amazon have slashed $60 off the price of their Amazon Kindle 2 ebook reader, pulling the device to $299 for the first time.  The move is being seen as a response to a growing number of ebook reader rivals, though admittedly none have the same wireless distribution network in place that Amazon have organized.
