Waterproof 8GB Sony Xperia M4 Aqua isn’t bloatware-proof

Waterproof 8GB Sony Xperia M4 Aqua isn’t bloatware-proof

It has just been two months since Sony announced its latest waterproof mid-range beauty and now it is gaining some notoriety. At least the 8 GB version of Xperia M4 Aqua. Xperia Blog reports how Sony has, intentionally or not, practically crippled the more affordable model of the two versions, leaving less than 2 GB of usable storage space out of the 8 GB total storage found inside. And the culprit? Nothing less than the smartphone user's favorite source of headache: pre-installed apps, a.k.a. bloatware.

Sony stops selling the Xperia Z3 Compact in the US

Sony stops selling the Xperia Z3 Compact in the US

Sony is doing it again, leaving fans and industry observers scratching their heads in bewilderment. Although T-Mobile's removal of the Xperia Z3 last April turn to out to be a false alarm, the unlocked Xperia Z3 Compact might not be so lucky. Sony has just put its last mini flagship under the discontinued section of its online store with nary an explanation nor a clue. Normally, discontinuing products heralds the arrival of a successor. But the way Sony has been acting these days, it's getting hard to tell what the Japanese OEM is really up to.

The company has just announced the Xperia Z3+, the international release of the Xperia Z4, its name in the Japanese market. While it may not look much different from last year's Z3, there is more than enough in this update to qualify it for this year's flagship. It's currently scheduled for release sometime this summer, however Sony hasn't confirmed final pricing yet.

Sony event in India could be for the Xperia Z4

Sony to brand Xperia Z4 as Xperia Z3+ in other markets

Sony to brand Xperia Z4 as Xperia Z3+ in other markets

It seems that Sony might have become a bit unhinged in its efforts to hunker down on its somewhat floundering mobile business. First, it rather quietly unveiled the Xperia Z4, which may or may not be limited to the Japanese market. And then there are whispers of an Xperia P2 that looks terribly similar except in a few areas. Now there is word that Sony might actually sell the Xperia Z4 in other markets as well, but quite appropriately name it as the Xperia Z3+ instead.

Xperia P2 leak resembles a slightly different Xperia Z4

Xperia P2 leak resembles a slightly different Xperia Z4

It's been quite a while, three years in fact, since we've last seen a P series smartphone. In fact, there has actually only been one member of that family, until now. At least, if this latest leak is to believed. The rather strange thing about this Xperia P2 is not that it exists, considering how the Xperia P wasn't exactly a hit. It is the fact that its spec sheet make it look like a thicker variant of the just announced Xperia Z4, a smartphone that itself is still shrouded in mystery, that makes it rather curious.

Sony Xperia Z4 unveiled without fuss or fanfare

Sony Xperia Z4 unveiled without fuss or fanfare

Sony is being strange lately, at least when it comes to its mobile devices. We already know that the Xperia Z4 would be coming soon, considering it was a no show at MWC last February even while the Xperia Z4 Tablet debuted with the name. The OEM seems to also flip flop on its position about releasing a flasghip once or twice a year. And now it just revealed the Xperia Z4 and, unlike its rivals in the market, it didn't even hold a special event to do so, which is a weird treatment of a flagship.

As we start to see Xperia Z4 leaks rolling in, we’re left to assume the handset is on its way. Sony hasn’t sent out invitations to an event, though, so it’s left in limbo.
