iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner legit says former biometrics tech team exec

Talk of new fingerprint scanning technology in the iPhone 5S may not be that far off the mark, with a new set of photos and some background from a biometric security expert lending weight to the chatter. The part photos were shared by Sonny Dickson, notorious for getting his hands on upstream Apple hardware and digging deep inside beta software code for early reveals - now he's got what seems to be a new home button for the iPhone 5S. This device appears by all means to be a legitimate piece of equipment that could be used by the next-generation hardware - and we've heard this story before.

Galaxy Note III specifications tipped by display leak [UPDATE]

The Samsung Galaxy Note III has been all but confirmed by Samsung in an invitation to a September 4th event, and today's leak of a series of photos of the device's frontside display show what the machine is made of. What we've got here is a set of pictures photographed by eTrade Supply, they claiming the legitimacy of these images as the final piece of hardware we'll need to put the whole picture together. While it may seem that the 5.7-inch display of the Galaxy Note III is ready to roll, we'll still need to wait (on the other hand) for Samsung to give the full run-down on what next-generation software features this device will be appearing with right out of the box.

Nokia: We’ve nowhere to go but Windows Phone

iOS App Rentals coming this week

iOS App Rentals coming this week

It appears quite likely that inside the BETA release for iTunes 10.5 comes a code that points directly at the future ability for users to rent applications instead of purchasing them. What this could mean is several things - it could simply be the ability for developers to allow rentals of their applications, this opening up a new window for revenue where now only freemium, payed, and free with apps options exist. Could this be the start of another revolution in app developing, or is it a complete phantom, only a re-named way to try apps out before purchase?

TRENDnet TEW-655BR3G WiFi-N mobile wireless router

Networking company TRENDnet have announced a new 150Mbps mobile wireless router, that - similar to a MiFi - allows you to create a wireless hotspot using 3G or 4G networks.  However, unlike the MiFi the TRENDnet TEW-655BR3G has no internal WWAN connection of its own, and instead relies on a USB 3G or 4G modem.  The company claims that no software or drivers are required, it's simply a case of slotting in your modem and sharing it with multiple WiFi clients.
