Nokia: We’ve nowhere to go but Windows Phone

Nokia has reiterated that it has no second strategy should its partnership with Microsoft around Windows Phone fail, with VP Victor Saeijes insisting that"Plan B is that Plan A must succeed." Although Nokia pushed out a Symbian update earlier this week, bringing its old platform up to speed with the latest Nokia Belle iteration, the only way forward is Windows Phone, Saeijes told Swedish paper Dagens Industri, even if that means playing catch-up in the smartphone industry.

iOS App Rentals coming this week

It appears quite likely that inside the BETA release for iTunes 10.5 comes a code that points directly at the future ability for users to rent applications instead of purchasing them. What this could mean is several things - it could simply be the ability for developers to allow rentals of their applications, this opening up a new window for revenue where now only freemium, payed, and free with apps options exist. Could this be the start of another revolution in app developing, or is it a complete phantom, only a re-named way to try apps out before purchase?

TRENDnet TEW-655BR3G WiFi-N mobile wireless router

Networking company TRENDnet have announced a new 150Mbps mobile wireless router, that - similar to a MiFi - allows you to create a wireless hotspot using 3G or 4G networks.  However, unlike the MiFi the TRENDnet TEW-655BR3G has no internal WWAN connection of its own, and instead relies on a USB 3G or 4G modem.  The company claims that no software or drivers are required, it's simply a case of slotting in your modem and sharing it with multiple WiFi clients.
