iPhone 5S and 5C rumor round-up

iPhone 5S and 5C rumor round-up

Tomorrow an Apple event will play host to the launch of what's expected to be more than one new iPhone device as well as the formal public release of iOS 7. This mobile operating system update to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch device family was introduced earlier this year at Apple's yearly developers conference WWDC. The devices Apple is expected to unveil are both the iPhone 5S - an incremental update to the iPhone 5, and the iPhone 5C - the plastic-backed so-called "budget" device rumored for many moons, with bright colors all around.

iPhone with 6-inch display tipped for testing at Apple

iPhone with 6-inch display tipped for testing at Apple

Just as Apple is set to show of their next round of iPhone devices with 4-inch displays - like the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, for example - word has it that they're in testing with handsets as large as 6-inches. A report from the the Wall Street Journal today suggests that sources familiar with the matter have informed them of Apple testing displays for iPhones anywhere from 4.8-inches all the way up to 6-inches diagonally. This would place Apple squarely up against the likes of the HTC One (with it's 4.7-inch display) and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (with it's 5.7-inch display) for a battle that wont begin until next year (at the very soonest).

iWatch tipped by Apple Nike FuelBand developer hire Jay Blahnik

Though it's not entirely aimed at a public release, Apple's hiring of fitness expert and Nike FuelBand developer Jay Blahnik has become public knowledge and a tip not to be missed over the past several hours. This hire has he masses suggesting Apple is aiming for more wearable technology finesse, possibly aiming at the fabled iWatch for development over the next several seasons. This follows up on a tip from earlier this year that Blahnik would be joining Apple, both this and that rumor suggesting the developer would be working on codename iWatch this year.

iPad 5 hardware panel appears vs iPad mini 2

iPad 5 hardware panel appears vs iPad mini 2

There's a 5th generation iPad in the works, and a set of photos this week (once again) provides clues suggesting the size and shape of this device likely appearing in full later this year. With the success of the iPad mini comes Apple's redesign of the iPad - here rolling out in (more) unofficial images from China-based leakster Xubo Long with rounded edges and a smaller bit of area for bezel on all four sides. While we've just got the back panel here (alongside an iPad mini 2), the front panel needs only be imagined to see the full device.

iPad mini 2 housing leaks aside iPad 5

iPad mini 2 housing leaks aside iPad 5

Though the changes appear to be few, the next-generation casings for both the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 appear to be hitting the factory floor with bits and pieces all their own. This double dose of Apple hardware - if it does indeed prove to be legitimate, shows the iPad family to be making a few aesthetic changes while it improves its innards - innards which we've been hypothesizing are getting incremental updates this Fall. The first of these changes comes in the Apple logo.

iPad 5 specifications leaks produce HD mock-up

iPad 5 specifications leaks produce HD mock-up

With the iPad 3 - aka the Retina display-toting iteration being taken-over in silence by the iPad 4, what with its first implementation of the Lightning port, the 5th generation appears to be aiming for a whole new form factor. What we're seeing this afternoon is a series of mock-ups of this new device based on previous specification sheets leaked several weeks ago. In short - this device is not just short, but thin and a bit smaller around the edges, too.

The iWatch team: wearable experts tipped to assemble

The iWatch team: wearable experts tipped to assemble

It would appear that Apple is going all-in on what's still code-named iWatch, a wearable device that's commanding the attention of next-generation device hopefuls here in the summer of 2013. While Apple hasn't directly confirmed the existence of the iWatch exactly, a whirlpool of rumors, tips, and reports on the matter paint a rather interesting picture of a watch that's not just an accessory to play second-fiddle to the iPhone.

Mac Pro 2013 glass case concept is impractical but lustworthy

Mac Pro 2013 glass case concept is impractical but lustworthy

Apple's new Mac Pro may be a lesson in rethinking workstation component layouts, but wouldn't it be better if you could actually see all that clever construction through a custom glass sleeve? Designer and 3D artist Martin Hajek thought so, and so cooked up some renders of the Mac Pro 2013 with its metal casing replaced, not only with glass - and reminiscent of the G4 Cube Steve Wozniak is so enamored with - but with perforated aluminum and even some sleek metallic finishes.

iPhone 6 concept renderings beg for borderless displays

iPhone 6 concept renderings beg for borderless displays

The photos of the iPhone 6 you're about to see do not tread lightly with those of you who aren't all about keeping their phone safely packed away from the concrete ground you tread on. It should also be made clear that the images you're seeing are mixtures of reality and concept rendering, using a real finger to make you see the rest of the device as real - dust and reflections as well. Once you understand that, hear this: the iPhone 6 you see in less than a year may very well look exceedingly similar to these artist's renditions.

Home Depot says no to BlackBerry 10: iPhone a go

When it comes to the business segment, it would seem that no company has more to lose than BlackBerry - as proven this week by stock prices falling at news the Home Depot will soon be switching to iPhone. The yet-unofficial announcement that Home Depot would be dropping their company-wide use of BlackBerry devices for Apple's mobile phone option will have the company formerly known as RIM servicing around 100,000 devices fewer once the full switch is made. It would seem that stocks of BlackBerry dipped down as far as 6 percent in early trading today while the stock appears to be a bit more on the rebound as noon arrives.
