‘Uploader for Instagram’ app asked to be taken down, nets creator $6K

The 17-year-old developer behind the Mac app "Uploader for Instagram" was recently told by the social network to remove it from the App Store due to inappropriate use of their API. The suggested deadline for removal has passed, and as of yet there are no legal filings. Instagram hasn't followed up with the developer, and made no further comments about its demand for removing the app. Also interesting is that the teen has made roughly $6,000 from downloads of the $5 app since its release in early March.

Are Facebook & Instagram app economy rip-off artists?

Are Facebook & Instagram app economy rip-off artists?

Cover bands sometime make a living copying the work of others. Their ability to mimic a chosen group is often what makes them desirable to see live. Some big-name artists cover each other’s songs, and it’s typically a nod of admiration. In the app economy, we can’t say the same is true. Rather than a tribute to an art form, ‘copied’ apps pile onto the original, burying it. Facebook might be the best at this practice. With Rooms, they came under fire for copying an eerily similar app named Room. Now, Facebook-owned Instagram seems to have followed suit with Layout.

Instagram: 1-year since Windows Phone update, still no iPad app

While the gap may be filled by an abundance of iPad apps on the iTunes app store now, Instagram is still without a full-fledged tablet-sized iteration. It's also been a year and a day since the last time the official Instagram app was updated for Windows Phone devices. After the app garnered enough popularity for Microsoft to create their own bootleg Instagram app, the team behind Instagram were encouraged to make their own - one that they've not updated for a whopping 12 months.

Instagram now loops like Vine

Instagram now loops like Vine

The war of the tiny media sharers continues. Instagram has had an internal update which allows videos shared to the service to loop. Just like Vine, whenever you tap the "play" button on an Instagram video, you're going to be watching that video over and over and over again, prompting Vince super-sharers to trade services. If they do so dare, of course. This is the next step in Social Networking, after all - adding ALL the features of competing services to do better than they.
