Xbox Video for web launches – No HD for it or Windows Phone app

Xbox Video for web launches – No HD for it or Windows Phone app

Microsoft has launched Xbox Video online, expanding the streaming media service from Windows 8.1 PCs and Xbox One to the web, ahead of its expected arrival on Windows Phone. The new site supports consumption of both previously purchased content - once you've logged into your account - and buying new media through the webstore, which can then be played back on a PC, Windows tablet, or Xbox. However, there are a few drawbacks to the new web version, which Microsoft has confirmed will also impact the smartphone release.

SkyDrive for iOS adds auto camera backup

SkyDrive for iOS adds auto camera backup

Microsoft has added automatic photo upload to its SkyDrive app for iOS, with the new Camera Backup feature pushing shots directly to the cloud once they're snapped. The updated SkyDrive iOS app makes Camera Backup an option, naturally, and the uploads can be set to take place over WiFi and cellular data, or only when you've got a WiFi connection. It's not the only tweak to the software, either.

Nokia Lumia 1520 Review

Nokia Lumia 1520 Review

You're to blame for the vast Nokia Lumia 1520. "Make a phablet" we kept asking Nokia, "give us a big Windows Phone to compete with the Galaxy Note." That Nokia - and Microsoft - went off to the drawing board and returned with a hand-dominating 6-inch monster is a juicy sort of irony, then: this is a Lumia that not only comes in larger than just about every other smartphone on the market, it could be considered a small tablet in its own right. Problem is, there's a difference between a big phone and a great one, so has Nokia done more than enlarge Lumia? Read on for our full review.

Xbox One to include YouTube app despite Windows Phone app woes

Microsoft today announced that the Xbox One will have access to a Microsoft-developed YouTube app come launch time this Friday (Nov. 22 at 12:01AM). Much unlike the company's official Windows Phone YouTube app, the Xbox One YouTube app will be, well, an actual app. Rather than just serving as a link to the mobile YouTube website (as the Windows Phone app does), the Xbox One YouTube app will contain features. Bonus!

Instagram for Windows Phone lands today (but it’s half-baked)

Instagram for Windows Phone lands today (but it’s half-baked)

Instagram for Windows Phone arrives today, landing in the Windows Phone Store complete with Live Tile support. However, the much-anticipated app is lacking a few features compared to its iOS and Android cousins, most notably that video support isn't present at release. Whereas the existing apps for other platforms allow short video clips to be recorded and shared, Windows Phone users will need to wait for a future update to get that functionality.

Nokia Lumia 1520 first-impressions – Windows Phone goes big

Nokia Lumia 1520 first-impressions – Windows Phone goes big

You asked for a big Windows Phone, and Nokia is delivering just that with the Lumia 1520. Headed to AT&T imminently, the 6-inch phablet not only bears the biggest screen on a recent Nokia, but the fastest processor ever inside a Windows Phone, the highest display resolution, and what's arguably the most rational compromise of camera quality in the company's well-esteemed PureView system. With review units only released late last week, we're still getting to grips with the Lumia 1520's charms, but there's still time for some first-impressions of how this new flagship measures up.
