I’ve been known to dabble in the art of overclocking from time to time. I wouldn’t describe myself as a “hardcore” overclocker though. You know the types, the ones that are dumping liquid nitrogen on their CPU so they can squeeze out every last drop of speed. Well a group of such people recently managed to push their Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 to a whopping 5.1GHz.

I’ve gotten some pretty decent performance gains from my various OC experiences, but they actually managed to double the speed of their Q6600, which normally runs at 2.4GHz. This marks the fastest clock speed for this particular processor, though certainly not the highest for any CPU.

You have to wonder just how much money is spent on liquid nitrogen when undertaking something like this. To be honest, I’m not even sure where I’d go to purchase liquid nitrogen. I think I’ll just stick to my basic liquid cooling setup when overclocking.

A lab on the edge of the town I live in sells liquid nitrogen for around 1$/l, colling nitrogen is not that expensive. :)
