This article is incorrect and needs to be removed, or be given an update notice with correct information. Adobe recanted it's claims that Lion disabled hardware acceleration for Flash [1] [2] [3]. They now admit that is in fact Adobe's player that is having issues.

Their original claim was made due to the fact that an earlier beta only version of Lion had hardware acceleration disabled, but even then it was only for one particular hardware model. Subsequent beta versions, and in point the final release version of Lion, has the feature in place for all hardware models.

So please update this article with proper information, or remove it. Thanks.

Deanna7736: The flash player version made available by Adobe for OS X Lion is a beta version. It will function fine, however it does have a few bugs such as the Settings window being unclickable. This however can be worked around by changing the settings in the Flash Player dialog, which you can find located in the System Preferences menu in Lion.

Apple did temporarily turn off hardware acceleration in the earlier builds of Lion as they were trying to stabilize their 2D hardware acceleration API (Quartz GL). However, it has been enabled one again in the final build (Safari 5.1 is using Quartz GL to do hardware acceleration in the final build). Adobe simply has to do some tweaking with flash player to get its hardware acceleration working again. Not a big problem on either side.

This article is ridiculous. No, Apple did not kill any sort of flash hardware acceleration. Adobe was just late to the update party and their products are suffering for it.

I don't think both companies work well with each other. Microsoft has always worked well with adobe. Steve jobs never like adobe calling them lazy developers. I just think apple needs to continue using without them so they can stay within there means and be happy about it. Other so that like and use flash are happy to my knowledge. Just like a apple user to blame other software when things don't workout together. Stay closed apple just stay close.

My 2011 MacBook Pro with Lion clearly shows both accelerated video rendering and decoding using the version of Safari shipped with Lion and the most recent version of Flash (which was still installed for 64-bit Safari even after upgrading to Lion). Just because someone you know reported it doesn't work for them does not mean Apple intentionally messed it up to spite Adobe. Get your facts straight.
