This is most definitely *not* a great deal, by any stretch of the imagination. Sure, a £200 up-front price for an entry-level 3G iPad sounds tempting. But the monthly fee is absolutely shocking: A minimum of £27 (for new customers) over 24 months is £648, plus the £200 up front leaves you with £848. The tariff is for a paltry 1GB of data, something which should not cost more than £5/month on contract (I paid Three £60 for 12 months of 1gb *and* a new 3G dongle).

To contrast, once you subtract the £529 retail price of the iPad from that £848 you're left with a figure of £319 for 24 months. That's 2.6 times what I pay Three for the same privilege. And double the contract length.

On a subsidised phone, at least you're getting value in terms of free minutes and text messages. On an iPad you simply get the same pathetic data allowance you would on a similarly priced phone contract, sans any other benefits.

Protip: Apple provide finance options for the iPad. And if you need a 3G iPad with mobile data to the tune of £27/month badly, then your employer should be paying for it, not you.
