People foretold the downfall of Java after the acquisition by Oracle. I think people are certainly going to think twice about using Java to build their product after this -- at best. At worst, Oracle may end up being the catalyst for even more ridiculous software copyright law in the US -- as if it wasn't bad enough.

I think code should be copyrightable, but copyrighting or patenting software functionality is completely ridiculous. There are often many unique ways to solve a problem with software. If Google was able to implement their own version of certain elements of the Java API, then I don't see how that is not fair-use.

Imagine now that APIs were copyrightable. Would Microsoft suddenly own or be entitled to every piece of software that uses Win32, MFC, .NET or ATL? As if corporations don't already have enough power in this country...

Let me translate ... mhm, yes.

"QUAAAACK QUACK QUACK QUACK QUAAAACK WUACK QUACK. QUACK"

Nah, I think they are saying that while corporations have commoditized every aspect of our life, how can we punish them when our system of government is just as frustrating and has allowed us to get to this point. I think that is what BR is trying to say.

To which I would respond, "sure, but until the government can stop you from being a decent human being, don't worry about it, make sure you vote, and make sure you write--more coherently, I hope--to your representatives."

I'm trying to figure out exactly what you're trying to say here. Are you seriously trying to imply that Oracle is the white knight here? How exactly is Google "inherently corrupt"?

I honestly have nothing proper to say about this subject.
I can see why Google Shouldn't have a right to do whatever they want with what someone else has created- Especially since they probably stole it with their "Google Car".

But I can also see how corrupted men have taken far too many proffitts from things that are mandatory in our lives. Such as the program that syncs you to a satellite in orbit to make a call, to save someone's life that you've just found at an accident site/mangle motorcycle.

I don't like the idea of anyone pulling a "proffitt" of ANY kind when the Department of Homeland Security seems to think it's Inevitable that our Economy will fail- and then they'll demand (by force of rifles) that we keep following this Horrendously broken Socialogical structuring. AND I Don't like the idea of someone as inherently corrupt as "Google" NOT being Shafted in every chance possible.

(I actually don't believe in most of the facets of society people have spent the past 250+ years creating. It's So Broken, if it were a bridge- I'd jump willingly into the canyon rather than attempt to walk across it.)
