It shouldn’t be due to hardware. I mean, C2D is more than capable to run a browser. I switched back to opera because chrome too was a hog, even worse than opera. I just don’t get it.

interesting… opera is my default browser on a netbook with only a single core atom processor clocked at a mere 1.83ghz with 1gb ddr2 ram… avast free antivirus… winXp… almost always runs an external monitor at 1600×900… no issues for me here… stream 720p hd content from youtube too (yes, on the atom, and yes, it works very well)…

also use firefox, chrome and ie8 but of them all, opera seems to handle multiple tabs with flash much much much better… i typically can have 20+ tabs open in opera (with flash content) with no issues/minor lag issues – while the other browsers (chrome, firefox & ie) typically stall stutter amd crash…

consider getting a more modern system…

I don’t know if you’re the tech guy, but here it goes..
And i don’t want to take up your time, since it’s obviously something wrong with either the opera/flash/my laptop.
Anyway..

Pretty much every site i regularly use:
gmail
hotmail
facebook
slashgear
bgr
verge
…
I gave up at that point.

Slashgear uses cca 5% proc and 250 mb of ram with one tab opened, and around 10% and 500 mb with four.

I see no pattern whatsoever, but i have also had a lot of trouble with flash (who hasn’t).

If you can post the sites that would help. Also it could be they are running flash which is causing the issue.

Some, let’s call them “more complicated” websites (since i do not know what exactly is the cause) use up hundreds of mb’s and some processor time, resulting in a loud vent, slow scrolling and all around slugishness of my laptop. Someone mentioned it has something to do with CSS..

Slashgear i can bear, it’s not that bad, but the verge for example uses like 20% proc and 700mb of ram :)

Some websites, including slashgear, bgr and verge are still trying to melt my laptop when i open them in Opera :(
